14.12.2024, 19:00, Wrocław, Sala Oratorium Marianum Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego
The ‘Tango Rococo’ concert with music by Piazzolla, Massa or Ginastera is a tribute to Argentina. The bandoneon, with its sound somewhat reminiscent of the organ, is perfectly at home in Baroque music – in the beautiful Rococo interiors of the Marianum Oratory Hall, we will also hear Alessandro Marcello’s famous concerto in D minor arranged for guitar and bandoneon.
And all this will be performed by the celebrated successor to Astor Piazzolla, the excellent banoneonist Omar Massa, accompanied by the award-winning guitarist Jerzy Chwastyk.
The combination of bandoneon and guitar was probably the most important instrumentation in traditional tango music. After Astor Piazzolla’s revolution and the creation of Tango Nuevo, the bandoneon is still the most important instrument in the genre, and Piazzolla himself composed his only double concerto for guitar and bandoneon. This combination is therefore a perfect representation of the tango nuevo genre.
